There are many kinds of loneliness. One of them is finding your soulmate but having to spend years apart. The song “Green Eyes” is a love poem by a man who has to leave for two years. In one version, it’s for military training which was once mandatory here in Bulgaria. It could also be for work, which is so common in Romani families when the man goes abroad to earn enough money to support the family. It could also be prison. But the song is not about where the man goes. It could be anywhere. The point is that all he sees is the woman he loves and when he finally returns, she is the first person he wants to see.
