One of the most beloved Roma singers, often called The King of Roma Music - Djemail Gasi, is known for his deep lyrics and powerful voice. It was a challenge to translate this song about losing one’s family because Djemail is from a neighboring country and sings in a different dialect. So after hours and hours of writing and translating, there are still some missing lines from the song. However, we still want to share it with you and invite you to experience it the way it’s meant to be experienced - with the soul.
To quote Pepi, who does the translation from Romanes: “Trying to translate it to paper is hard. But if I sit down to drink and listen to it, I understand it, and I start crying.”
