Simply by listening to Roma songs, you’ll know that family is the highest value in Roma culture. It feels like every other Roma song is about the mother. And when it’s not - usually, it is sung to the mother. Mother, I’m in love. Mother, I am sick. Mother, I am afraid.

This song is one of many songs about a son’s love for his mother. It’s performed by Čita, a contender for the title “King of Roma Music” here on the Balkans. And it is a sad song, full of grief for an old, ailing mother who gave her all for her children. And now, as Čita sings as he’s crying, her son wants to give back.
