This is one of our favorite recent finds because it is an old, simple song that captures perfectly the spirit of dancing and love for music in Roma culture. As the lyrics show, the Romani have a powerful connection with music and the Roma dance čoček is a fundamental element of their soul. The drums and the zurna demand the dance, and the Roma soul responds to the call.
This recording is made available by the Amalipe Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance. You can find it on their YouTube channel along with many other Roma songs. Our translation into English is below.
